No More False Parity of Pakistan With Rising India,” Says US Congressman Ami Bera

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, U.S. Congressman Ami Bera made it clear that Washington no longer treats India and Pakistan as equivalent nations. As India continues its ascent in strategic, economic, and security spheres, Bera said that Pakistan, burdened by internal terrorism and an economic crisis, does not stand on a par with its neighbor.

Bera called India “a country on the rise,” contrasting it with Pakistan, which he described as being afflicted by state-backed terror groups and worsening economic instability.

He defended India’s response through Operation Sindoor, calling it an expected and justified measure. Meanwhile, he urged Pakistan to address its domestic challenges rather than exporting terror.

Reacting to the U.S. giving General Asim Munir a red-carpet welcome at the White House, Bera acknowledged the diplomatic sensitivity but maintained that U.S. lawmakers remain steadfast: their long-term strategic, economic, and security interests are aligned with India.

Bera also warned against any creation of alliances that could destabilize the region—cautioning against something he referred to as a potential “Muslim NATO.” Instead, he encouraged Gulf powers to partner with India, given its growing economic influence.
